There are two main types of explosion-proof WiFi: flameproof and intrinsically safe.

Flameproof WiFi is designed to withstand an explosion without igniting the surrounding atmosphere, typically used in areas with a risk of flammable gases or vapours.  

Intrinsically safe WiFi is designed to emit such low energy levels that it cannot ignite an explosive atmosphere, typically used in areas with a risk of combustible dust or fibres.

The certification standards: ATEX, IECEx, or both

The performance requirements: Data rate, range, and number of users
